Mobile Phone Offences

It is an offence to use a hand held mobile phone whilst driving. This includes texting, calls, emails and general browsing. This offence can also be extended to other forms of handheld devices such as laptops, Sat Navs etc.

If you are caught using a mobile phone whilst driving, you could receive 6 penalty points on your licence.

What Are The Penalties?

The penalty for driving using a mobile phone is 6 penalty points. You could also receive a fine of up to £1000, the minimum fine is £250.

If you have 6 or more points and have been caught driving whilst using your phone, you are at risk of reaching 12 points on your driving licence which is known as a ‘totting up’ ban. If you reach 12 points on your licence, you could be at risk of a 6 month driving ban.
